This is a light switch with a difference, there is no wiring between the switch and the lights!
In the box you get a receiver unit, the light switch itself, some screws and double sided sticky pads and the instructions. The switch itself is IP65 rated and the receiver is not,
this has to be wired into place.
We have a separate garage to out property that has a power supply only from the house.
Many years ago I wired exterior lights on three sides of the garage to light up both our drive and our garden.
The problem of how to turn them on and off was originally solved by a remote control device that we kept in the kitchen with four plugs in the garage that it could
allegedly turn on or off from inside the house. We found out quite quickly that this didn't work well, with too many walls and distance it would only work if we took the
remote outside of our back door.
Then, more recently when we automated our home with Alexa we tried putting smart plugs in the garage to operate the same lights using the wonders of Alexa.
Sadly this hasn't been much more successful that the remote, possibly for the same reason, our WiFi router is in our lounge and the plugs in the garage are just a bit too
far away to get a consistent signal, sometimes they work, sometimes they dont.
This device seems to hold the solution to our problem, it was easy enough to wire into the lights which have long since been combined into a single circuit with a wall
switch on the outside of the garage.
We have mounted this switch on the wall inside our kitchen window, (as close as it can be to the garage) and when we press the button the lights come on and off as we
need them too, no need for the internet or router, only relying on there being a current in the garage.
The switch doesn't even look out of place in the kitchen window!
Click/clack and the lights are on all over the garden!
